Despite their mightiness, pens were confiscated.

This is a response to the old saying, “the pen is mightier than the sword.”
If someone with a sword can take your pen away, is the pen actually mightier than the sword? Or is it that the person with the sword was compelled to take the pen at the behest of someone with a mighty pen?
This all comes down to the nature of power and belief in power. The danger of a pen is that one pen might inspire others to rebel against a different pen. Can a sword do the same? Or is it that word of the sword does it – in which case it is once again the pen?
The same show discussed the same topic and made a powerful case (though I do not believe it actually refutes the one made above.)

The recent pop culture fad seems to be saying that GOT sucked and no one actually liked it so I started rewatching, spoiler alert it’s a pretty good show int he beginning. I really enjoy that Varys Tyrion scene.

Yeah, I was late at arriving to that show when it was a global phenomenon, but the first four seasons were legitimately elite television. Seasons 5 and 6 were a step back but still pretty good. Seasons 7 and 8 were this weird juxtaposition of the visual side getting better and better, with much bigger budgets, while the writing started just unapologetically phoning it in.
I’ll be interested to see if HBO “Max” ever attempts to cure that crash landing. The House of the Dragon show has gone well, but it’s a prequel. I know they’ve got some other spinoff stuff going forward, but it’s also prequel stuff. The “Snow” show with Kit Harington, if it ever gets made, will be set after the events of GoT so maybe they’d try to rehab that original ending through that.

Uninformed opinion as I didn’t watch past season 5. I would guess that the writers were still trying, I think what was revealed as the series went on is that they were pretty good at adapting GRRM’s books to TV but once they outstripped the books and they were on their own they were exposed
